Merida,
the historical capital of the Venezuelan Andes,
is the base from which our mountain biking trips originate. Pedal
to the quaint village of La Azulita, reached through a marvelous
cloud forest, rounded off with a fantastic downhill or perhaps a
pedal to sleepy Los Nevados, a remote farming settlement at 8,500
feet. Another great ride starts in Mucuchies, a delightful town
dating back to 1596, along the Trans-Andean highway and heads into
the Sierra Nevada National Park, crossing a mountaintop wilderness
preserve. A typical days ride covers about 35 miles, depending
on the terrain and your experience. Most riders spend about 60%
of their time exploring on paved mountain roads, and the rest on
dirt trails. We just purchased new front suspension 9 speed Jamis
mountain bikes. Bring your own pedals if you wish and set off for
an adventure.
