Moderate biking adventure includes: accommodations (1

Descents from the Huascaran (22,200 feet)
and the Ulta snow peak (19,270 feet). Visit the artisan's
town of Tarica, sightsee in the Cordillera Blanca, the
Callejon de Huaylas and visit Huaraz. End with a descent
on the Dark Mountain Range's coastal desert and camping
in the Callejon de Conchucos.
DAY 1
LIMA ~ HUARAZ
Spend a peaceful day driving the North Coast with it's
beautiful beaches with huge waves. On the way to Huaraz
stop at the fishing towns along the way. After 125 miles
journey to the highest spot around midday when the weather
is warmest. In order to acclimatize to the weather and
altitude ride downhill on easy paths to Huaraz. Check
into comfortable accommodations. About 22 miles of downhill
riding on asphalt roads. (B,L)
DAY 2
HUARAZ
Descend from the Callejon de Huaylas at about 11,000 feet
to 8,200 feet. Midday take another descent from the dark
mountain range at 13,100 feet where tomorrows ride is
foreshadowed by views of the snow peak of Huascaran and
end at 7,200 feet. During the day visit Tarica, where
they sell artisan crafts made out of clay and Carhuaz
for a sample of homemade ice cream , famous for it's delicious
flavors. It is preferable to spend the night a Caraz because
of the altitude and there taste a milky candy, "Manjar
Blanco" famous in Peru. Accommodations in a comfortable
hotel in Huaraz or Caraz. About 20 miles on asphalt roads
and 22 miles on dirt roads. (B,L)
DAY 3
HUARAZ ~ CALLEJON de CONCHUCOS
First on the agenda is a visit to the Llanganuco Lagoon,
located at 13,000 feet, with it's beautiful turquoise
waters. From the highest part, Portachuelo at 15,700 feet
find one of the best views of the Dark Mountain Range,
Huascaran, Huandoy and all the minor snow peaks there.
Fantastic descent to the Callejon de Conchucos where the
indigenous people cultivate their lands. Camp under the
stars, near to the river at an altitude of 7,500 feet.

DAY 4
HUARAZ ~ HUANCAPETI PASS ~ HUARMEY
Very early in the morning ascend the Dark Mountain Range
to 14,435 feet. The steep decline produces fast speeds
and chilly conditions but the views are beautiful. Leave
the Cordillera Blanca behind as you approach the sunny
coastal desert and the view changes to sand dunes where
an oasis of farmland in a valley is discovered in Huarmey.
Here in where the ancient Chimu culture dominated spend
the night in simple accommodations. About 43 miles of
biking on dirt roads. (B,L)
DAY 5
HUARMEY ~ LIMA
Take it easy and watch the northern beaches go by with
a stop for lunch by the beach. In the afternoon arrive
in Lima. (B,L)
