Amazon River Cruise - Iquitos to Manaus

All cruises are currently suspended. While hopeful that this route will open up again, there is no indication when this will resume. Cruises from Manaus (on the M/Y Tucano or M/V Desafio) or Iquitos are available.

plus 1 night in Iquitos and 1 night in Manaus

A comfortable, fast vessel that ports between Iquitos and Manaus with an on-board series of lectures. The many stops and shore excursions will visit native villages, river towns, take jungle walks, fish for piranhas, bird-watch, star gaze and a world of other activities.

Tuesday
Depart for down river cruise at 12:00 noon. Briefing, lunch, lifeboat drill and safety instructions on board. Afternoon shore excursion to visit a local sugar cane still.

Wednesday
Early morning bird-watching excursion in the Ampiyacu river. Visit to a native village of Boras and Huitotos, folk dancing and trading for handicrafts. Visit the town of Pevas, the oldest European established settlement on the Peruvian Amazon. Late afternoon shore excursion to go up a small tributary.

Thursday
Visit a protected group of giant Victoria amazonicas water lilies prior to breakfast. Sail to Santa Rosa Island to cross the border into Brazil. Visit to the frontier towns of Leticia,Colombia and Tabatinga, Brazil. Cruise in the afternoon, lecture on board and enjoy a sunset on the Brazilian waters.

Friday
Morning excursion to visit the Tikuna native descendants in the village of Vendaval. Jungle hike to spot some trees and flowers of this area. Sail on to the Lago Do Sao Paulo for late afternoon shore excursion. An evening lecture will be offered on board.

Saturday
Morning arrival in the Jutai black water river area. Bird-watching and opportunity to fish for unusual catches, take a swim in the cool waters and explore a nearby village. Afternoon arrival at Lake Uara where we will take a nature walk. Late afternoon shore excursion into a river tributary near the village of Bello Horizonte. Lecture, and night excursion to spot caimans.

Sunday
Morning cruising and lecture on board. Anchor the ship near a small tributary and full day exploration of a small fishing village, Sao Jao Do Catua. Good fishing area. Lecture on board.

Monday
Early morning arrival in the Rio Badajos area. This river flows in from the North side pf the Amazon. Good shore excursions. Excellent nature area for Amazonian aspects; including fishing and bird-watching. Mid-afternoon stop in a typical Brazilian Amazon village. Final lecture on board the "Amazon of Today". Reception, dinner, music and party on board.

Tuesday
Early morning arrival at the juncture of the Rio Negro and the Amazon river. This is the famous "meeting of the waters", the dark waters of the Negro flow up against the light brown waters of the Amazon for a distance until they merge into one. Breakfast served on board, sail up the Rio Negro to the port of Manaus. After docking and clearing into port, transfer out to the airport or hotel in the city will be provided upon request.

Note: As this is an adventure area, many different natural forces, like water levels, rains, wind and weather conditions in general may affect the daily stops and visits but all activities above noted will be done at one time or another, perhaps not in the order presented. The Cruise Director and Naturalist Guides will take advantage of all windows of opportunities to provide the greatest show on earth...THE AMAZON!
