Cruising, Venezuela

Cruise a country that boasts the longest (1,740 miles plus) coastline in the Caribbean Sea and is peppered with more than 70 islands and numberless beaches. Just a three and a half hour flight from Miami, Venezuela offers superb cruising, deserted anchorages, mangrove islands and lagoons with a wealth of bird life and crystal clear waters with pleasant temperatures.

From west to east, Venezuela offers several cruising areas starting with Morrocoy National Park, that can be toured by sailboat or catamaran. Many tiny islands, Keys, await and Morrocoy makes an excellent starting point for longer trips to Las Aves and even Bonaire. Access to the sailing and yachting mecca of Venezuela, Los Roques Archipelago National Park, is possible by plane from Caracas or from Margarita Island and by sail or motor boat from Venezuela's central coast near Caracas. Farther north Las Aves is reachable by sailboat from Los Roques and Morrocoy. Isolated La Tortuga can be visited from Higuerote, a two hour drive from Caracas, from Puerto La Cruz and from Margarita Island. Puerto La Cruz and Cumana are the gateways to the idyllic Mochima National Park's islands, bays, coral reefs and sandy beaches. The seldom visited Golfo de Cariaco is also worth considering. Venezuela's biggest island, Margarita, offers a wealth of possibilities with navigation to nearby islands and small archipelagos such as Coche, Cubagua, La Tortuga, Los Frailes, Los Testigos and La Blanquilla.

Lost World Adventures handles the most complete range of all inclusive, crewed sailboats along Venezuela's coasts and islands and will help arrange sailing and yachting travel experiences from a day tour to a whole week or more of live aboard. Related activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing and fishing are available in most places.

Venezuela's rivers offer some hidden treasures as well. Discover spectacular landscapes and indigenous tribes as you cruise the rivers of the Amazon to the Autana Tepui or follow the route Alexander von Humboldt explored in 1799 through the Casiquiare and Yanomami land to the border with Brazil. Navigate the Carrao in the tepui dotted Lost World region to meet Angel Falls, the world's highest, also possible from Kavak, or the Caura up to the seldom visited Para Falls. A stay at the Orinoco Delta Lodge in the Orinoco Delta region allows to cruise numberless rivers and streams in search of an almost untouched fauna and flora in one of the biggest deltas of the world.
