The Venezuelan
Andes
offer a good choice of rafting trips in the southeastern
section of the Sierra Nevada National Park. There, unharmed
and virgin rivers surrounded by cloud forests flow down
to the Llanos
(grasslands), the water temperature averaging a very pleasant
86ºF. Our 10 night Andes
Multi-Activity Adventure includes whitewater rafting
in the Acequias River (II+ to III+) plus hiking,
mountain biking
and optional kayaking.
An elective 2 days rafting program including the Acequias
and also the Siniguis River can be added to all our tours
in the Andes. The Siniguis, a tributary of the Acequias,
has III and IV grade rapids. Rafting experiences are also
available in the rivers Paguey, Canagua (III to IV) and
Doradas. We provide professional guides and all necessary
equipment complying with safety standards.
Catalogued
as the widest in the world during the local rainy season,
the Orinoco River’s Atures Rapids are conveniently close
to Puerto Ayacucho, in the Venezuelan Amazon.
The rapids are II to IV+ and are ridden with specially
built, inflatable, powered catamaran-style rafts. The
awe-inspiring ride usually covers some 13 miles, adapts
to the party and all ages can join. Local fishermen in
their chores, different species of birds
and animals, including freshwater dolphins and river island
petroglyphs (in the local dry season) round up the experience.
Recent
additions to the world of whitewater rafting in Venezuela
are the rivers of the inspiring Gran Sabana, in the Lost
World Region. From Santa Elena de Uairen, head to
the Yuruani River for a full
day of body surfing and a thrilling rafting ride through
rapids graded III and IV, or sign up for our 2 nights
Gran
Sabana Rafting Tour, descending the Karaurin and Yuruani
Rivers and enjoying the breathtaking landscape of savannah,
jungle and table top mesas locally known as tepuis.
