Situated
in the south coast of Margarita
(Venezuela’s biggest island) and ranked as one of the
top five places in the world for the practice of windsurfing,
El Yaque offers an adequate range of hotels, guesthouses
and services catering to the fans of this activity. The
wind/wave conditions are very good year-round with winds
in the 15-22 mph range with very shallow sea up to some
984 feet offshore. These conditions make possible to windsurf
the still 9 miles passage between Margarita and Coche.
Gear and instruction are readily available from several
clubs offering the latest in boards and sails. Conditions
for kite surfing are outstanding as well thanks to the
low and flat waters.
Less
known than El Yaque, Adicora, in the Paraguana Peninsula
(Northwestern Venezuela), is little by little gaining
international recognition as another windsurfing spot
and rapidly adapting to the fact, with a blend of small
guesthouses that accommodate wind surfers. The winds are
usually 4-7 Bft and the waves 6-16 feet high. Gear and
instruction for both wind and kite surfing is on hand.
Access from Coro, an UNESCO’s World Heritage Site, or
from Punto Fijo.
Sail
flat water, bump and jump and side shore wave in the beautiful
Los
Roques Archipelago National Park, north of Venezuela’s
central coast and accessible from Caracas
or Margarita Island. Although good for any level, Los
Roques best suits intermediate to advanced sailors as
the wind typically blows 4-7 sail size during the first
half of the year. F2 boards and Neil Pryde Sails plus
equipment ranging from slalom cruising to bump and jump/wave
for a maximum of 10 sailors wait for you in this paradise
on earth.
