Day 1: u.S.A
Depart from the U.S. on your overnight flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Day 2: Buenos Aires
You will arrive in Buenos Aires in the morning. You will transfer to your hotel, where you will have the rest of the day to explore on your own. [B/D]
Day 3: Buenos Aires - Ushuaia
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Ushuaia, the world's southernmost city. You will enjoy an orientation tour of this popular and attractive resort town, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, rivers, and waterfalls, before boarding MS Fram. In the evening an informative welcome meeting will be held. [B/D]
Day 4 - 6: At Sea
During the sail to the Falkland Islands, you will enjoy lectures about this archipelago of 700 islands. It's an ecosystem that supports an astounding array of sub-Antarctic species. [B/L/D]
Day 7 - 8 : Falkland Islands/Malvinas
The ship will call at Stanley, the capital of the Falklands. Explore on your own, or take a guided tour.[B/L/D]
Optional excursions include:
- Sounders Island - Features miles of spectacular colonies of Black-browed albatross and Rock Hopper penguins.
- West Point Island- -Known for its wildlife, Fur seals, and sea lions-boasts the highest sea cliffs in the archipelago.
Day 9-10: At Sea
While at sea, you'll be offered on-board lectures about South Georgia. [B/L/D]
Day 13-14: Drake Passage
While at sea, you'll enjoy enlightening talks about Antarctica. [B/L/D]
Days 15-18: Antarctica
The ship will negotiate the narrow passage between Booth Island and the Antarctic Peninsula. [B/L/D]
You'll board PolarCirkel boats and, depending upon the weather, make a number of landings including:
- Whaler's Bay with its warm springs and black volcanic sand.
- Half Moon Island is a rookery for Chinstrap penguins, and home to Kelp gulls, terns, skuas and sheathbills.
- Yankee Harbor, home to seals and some 4,000 Gentoo penguin pairs.
- Almirante Brown in Paradise Harbor has views of snowy peaks, ice cliffs, and sculpted bergs.
- Port Lockroy. At this British base, postcards postmarked "Antarctica" can be purchased.
- Neko Harbor's water has a fine mirror finish, flecked with bits of berg.
- Petermann Island, inhabited by the southernmost colony of Gentoo penguins.
- Cuverville Island boasts the largest known colony of Gentoo penguins in the Antarctic Peninsula.
- Wilhelmina Bay, a feeding ground for whales and seals.
- Antarctic Sound where huge mile-long tabular icebergs can be seen.
- Brown Bluff where Weddell seals are regular visitors.
Day 18-19: Drake Passage
Your ship will pass Cape Horn, the southernmost point in South America. During your passage a number of lectures regarding Cape Horn and Antarctica will be held. [B/L/D]
Days 20: Ushuaia - Buenos Aires
In the morning, you will reach the Argentinean city of Ushuaia. Ushuaia is reckoned to be the most southerly city in the world and is situated on Tierra del Fuego Island south of the Magellan Strait. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy or choose from optional excursions. Day 21: Buenos Aires - USA
Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the U.S. [B]
Day 22: USA
Morning arrival in the U.S.A [B]
