Tierra
del Fuego Argentina

Translated as "fire island"
Tierra del Fuego offers forests with mossy carpets, scrubby
rocky outcroppings and beautiful ocean views. Ushuaia is the capital of this region.
Antarctica and Faulkland
island cruises depart from the docks of the capitol
city Ushuaia. The base for exploration of the area it's
possible to take a cruise down the Beagle channel or enjoy
the bustling town and it's attractions. Marvel at the impressive
scenery of snow-capped peaks, rivers, waterfalls and dense
woods in Tierra del Fuego National Park. Keep your eyes
out for a variety of wildlife, including the Andean condor.
Travel about 1 hour outside town to the shores
of the Beagle Channel. Usually stop to walk and view Port
Williams across the channel. Stop at the Haberton Ranch
founded by Bridges and run by his descendants. A surprising
museum of whales and dolphins are on display. From here
take a zodiac to a penguin colony where mostly Magellenic
penguins roost with the possibility of spotting a Gentou
Penguin as well. Stop for lunch at Gable Island and hike
around the island which gives insight into the beaver population.
Sea kayakers may explore the area by paddling the calm seas
as a day trip or overnight. It's also possible to stay at
the ranch as guests of Tommy and Mary Bridges for those
looking for a true retreat from civilization.
Off road trips travel across the Andes with
an overnight at the Hotel Petrel. One to three day climbing
expeditions may be pre-arranged with varying levels of difficulty.
For a different perspective, take a horseback
ride through the national park and along the shores of the
Beagle Channel. Half day, all day and overnight rides on
thoroughbreds with experienced guides. Three different lagoons
surround the Lake Fagnano for Patagonian fishing about an
hour and a half from Ushuaia. Fly fish for Rainbows, Browns,
and Funtenalis trout on a full day trip to the Rio Ewan.
One of the most exciting tours is on a sailboat
around Cape Horn. Not for the feint of heart as the seas
can be quite high, take 6 nights to sail around the tip
of South America.
In the Southern Hemisphere winter, our summer,
take advantage of local skiing at Cumbres del Martial. Between
June and October 15 runs from beginner to expert for skiers
and snowboarders are only 30 minutes away at Cerro Castor
complex. Dog-sledding or snow-shoeing are also possible.
