Ambergris
Caye:
Born of coral fragments, wind and tides, this palm-fringed island
is steeped in history and is a true paradise. The caye lies just
3/4 of a mile from the interior side of the Belize Barrier Reef.
The atmosphere here is truly indicative of Belize, with a relaxed
attitude, plenty of restaurants, nightlife, and shopping for local
handicrafts. The elegant Victoria
House is our resort of choice on Ambergris and features
deluxe oceanfront rooms, casitas and suites with tiled floors
and ceiling fans. There are also several villas available with
air conditioning as well as a luxurious honeymoon suite.
Mayan Mountain:
The Maya Mountain Range contains most of Belize's unmolested rainforests
and hosts an incredible wealth of plant and animal life. Over
2,000 species of native trees and 250 varieties of orchids grow
in these colorful, rich forests, which are also the habitat of
five species of large cats. The ancient Mayan
ruins hold the secrets of an advanced civilization
mysteriously lost. Visitors to these sites can touch the age-old
stones of temples and dwellings. Underground, a labyrinth of caves
and rivers form a subterranean world of precious crystal, stalactites,
and stalagmites where Mayan priests once held their sacred rituals.
Belize travel:
Combining the Belize interior with the coast makes a great 7 day
vacation that is a short flight from the US. If the beach and
scuba diving are your goals, consider staying at two different
properties to sample the varied offerings of Ambergris Caye compared
to southern or central Belize.
