Mayan Mountains

The Maya Mountain Range contains most of Belize's unmolested rainforests and hosts an incredible wealth of plant and animal life. Over 2,000 species of native trees and 250 varieties of orchids grow in these colorful, rich forests, which are also the habitat of five species of large cats. The ancient Mayan ruins hold the secrets of an advanced civilization mysteriously lost. Visitors to these sites can touch the age-old stones of temples and dwellings. Underground, a labyrinth of caves and rivers form a subterranean world of precious crystal, stalactites, and stalagmites where Mayan priests once held their sacred rituals.
