Mid
October to April there is excellent fishing to be had
just in front of the lodge on the Rio Aisen. Only one
mile upstream is the confluence of two other major rivers,
the Simpson and Manyihuales, both offer great fishing,
both floating and wading. Athough the lodge specializes
in flyfishing, they also accomodate spin-fisherman with
the same flourish. Fisherman should bring their own gear,
rods and flies.
Catering to small groups, with typically
no more than 6 guests at any one time. Week long stays
beginning on Saturday but other schedules will be accommodated
if possible. Travellers are picked up at the airport in
Balmaceda and driven over paved roads to the lodge through
the town of Coyhaique.
When
traveling to Patagonia it is very important to be prepared
for weather. Fleeces, knit caps, gloves, and a good Gore-tex
rain jacket are very important. Beautiful weather is abundant
but cold rainy systems from the Pacific frequent the mountainous
areas.
Non-fishing guests are easily accommodated
with a choice of activities like hiking, rafting, boating,
bird-watching, horseback riding, visiting the towns of
Aysen and Coyhaique, and touring the mountains. A great
attraction, wildflowers are in bloom December through
mid-February.
Target the highly regarded waters of Coyhaique
and fly fish for large, wild rainbow and brown trout in
rivers, spring creeks, ponds and lakes. Enjoy a range
of scenarios and methods that will hone your skills. Avid
fishermen Mariana Jenkins and guide Justin Greshko run
the lodge which hosts a maximum of six guests per week.
The home river is the Simpson, regarded as one of the
finest dry fly waters in the Southern Cone. From the lodge,
one can hear the river run and enjoy excellent access
to this incomparable river by driving up, wading in, or
by drift fishing. The big, ever so strong trout are divided
equally between rainbows and browns.
Additionally,
there are two rivers that flow out of cold, clear lakes.
One connects the second and third lakes in a series of
three and is hemmed, along one of its banks, by bluffs
that provide a falcon's view of holding and rising browns.
The other flows a trout stocked mile from its source lake
before joining forces with yet another wilderness river.
Another angling choice is the spring creek that winds
through highland pampas and a southern beech forest. While
dry fishing on moving water is what this area is known
for, there are six lagoons that are perfect for float
tubing for double digit trout, whether rainbows or browns.
Included are round-trip transfers, rooms
with a private bath, all meals and excellent Chilean wines
with lunch and dinner, fishing excursions including boat
arrangements and guide if needed. Arrangements will be
made according to water and weather conditions and personal
preference. From the lodge arrange to horseback ride,
birdwatch, or hike. Extend your stay with a visit to
Termas de Puyuhuapi for further fishing ventures combined
with natural hot springs.
