Jose Nogueira Hotel, Punta
Arenas
At
the end of the American continent, in the southern
part of legendary Patagonia and across Tierra del
Fuego, on the shores of the Strait of Magellan, lies
the most important and the first city in Patagonia:
Punta Arenas, Chile.
Right in the middle of downtown is
located one of the oldest buildings of the entire
Patagonia, the centenary old mansion formerly owned
by Don José Nogueira and Doña Sara Braun,
two characters who "wrote" the history of
Patagonia.
In
this historic place, which holds National Monument
status, was settled an exclusive hotel of 25 rooms,
all of which keep the old magnificent style.
José Nogueira Hotel has three
suites and 22 rooms, all exquisitely decorated with
stylish furniture, minibar, direct dial telephones,
cable TV, safe-deposit boxes, and PC connection to a
telephone line. Also available are fax, E-mail, and
Internet services. Suites are outfitted with a Jacuzzi
and a comfortable sitting area.
Two
dining rooms and the Winter Garden or Pergola dining
room offer meals that have received international
praise. The first two contain the original furniture,
lamps, and curtains of the mansion, and in the Pergola
one can dine enjoying the long summer days, with daylight
until 11 P.M. King crab, as well as finely prepared
lamb or a delicious smoked salmon grace the menu with
international and local specialties. A wide variety
of desserts are offered for a snack or as the finish
to a leisurely dinner. Among those which stand out
are the desserts with rhubarb or calafate (a wild
fruit native to Patagonia, similar to the blueberry).
