M/N Mare/Via Australis, Patagonia
The
Mare and Via Australis are both 236-foot passenger ship,
(Mare Australis built in 2002; Via Australis built in 2005)
with ice strengthened hull sailing in the passages of Tierra
del Fuego. The ship has 64 cabins capable of carrying 132
passengers on 4 decks yet it is still small enough to sail
into small inlets to access remote locations. Twice daily
disembarkments in zodiac boats allow passengers to experience
the beauty of the remote landscpape, its animals and flora.
The cabins all have private baths, large
windows, lock box, independently controlled AC/heat, wardrobe
and 110 volts US type electricity.
Each
day informative slide shows are given on the region and
there is also has a well-stocked library with reference
materials on the land, people, flora and fauna of Tierra
del Fuego. There is a store, infirmary, restaurant and several
lounges with full bars and panoramic views from which to
enjoy the landscape. The M/V Mare Australis has 14 safety
boats, 1 rescue boat and 4 zodiacs.
