Since the Argentine side of Tierra del
Fuego is more touristed, we only offer two options to
visit the Chilean side of the largest island in South
America. As a day trip board the ferry over the Straits
of Magellan to Puerto Porvenir on Fireland. Visit the
Municipal Museum with curious antiques dating back to
the first inhabitants, from the Ona indians to the Yugoslav
pioneers. Heading south to Bahia Inutil and Alto Boqueron
you will have the opportunity to watch back neck swans
and beautiful flamingoes, in the National Park. In the
afternoon return by plane for the 15-minutes flight to
Punta Arenas.
Anglers will want to stay at the Tierra
del Fuego Lodge for fjord, lake and stream fly and
reel fishing. Located in a valley surrounded by forest,
guests of the lodge are comfortably accommodated. On the
banks of the Rasmussen River, the lodge is in close proximity
to the famous Rio Grande River, considered one of the
best rivers in the world to catch elusive sea trout. Nearby
Cura Lagoon and Caribenaro Lake offer excellent rainbow
and great brown trout fishing.
