Lakes District ~ Chile
Chile's Lakes District is one of the most
beautiful parts of the country. The area, as its name suggests,
is dotted with lakes flanked by snowcapped mountains. You
can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as trekking,
horseback riding, canoeing, mountain biking and whitewater
rafting. Whitewater
rafting on the Petrohue River is a Class III adrenaline
rush through 12 kilometers of pristine river, forests, waterfalls
and volcanos.
Horseback
riding from the Hacienda Rupanco takes you through a
forest bordering the Coihueco River, where canoeing, mountain
biking and trout fishing can also be arranged. Your
Ecotravel guides will serve up plenty of adventure, as well
as mouthwatering meals. For those wishing to combine Chile
and Argentina, we highly recommend our Lakes Crossing between
Puerto Varas and Bariloche.
Our base for exploring this region is Puerto
Varas, overlooking Osorno Volcano. From here, you'll journey
to Alerce Andino National Park, an old growth temperate
rainforest filled with the exotic sounds of birds, cascading
waterfalls and wind rustling through the thick green canopy.
You can also enjoy a scenic float trip down the calm crystalline
waters of the Petrohue River or visit Chiloe Island in the
Chile Lakes District.
