Manu Cloud Forest Lodge located in the
lush and misty cloudforest of the Andes Mountains. High
up where it is cooler and there are no mosquitos, stay
in comfortable but basic accommodations. Cloud forest
is perhaps the most fragile and threatened type of rainforest.
Moss, lichens, ferns, and orchids grow profusely thanks
to the incredible amount of rainfall, in some cases up
to 33 feet per year. Well situated between cloud forest
covered slopes and adjacent to a narrow 400 foot high
waterfall. Rushing streams next to the site are two of
the small watercourses that descend from the mountains
and form the Qosñipata River.
The main attraction is the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock,
which are nearly crow sized, bright red birds in the Cotinga
family. Troops of the acrobatic Woolly Monkey are also
frequently sighted, as they descend the steep slopes covered
by trees. Flocks of colorful fruit eating tanagers forage
in trees along the trails. Other exotic birds are the
Golden-Headed Quetzal and the Amazonian Umbrella bird.
A recent bird census exceeded 700 species in the area
from the grasslands to the lowlands. Staying in the cloud
forest offers the chance to enjoy the spectacular high
elevation habitats of the Manu Park, the grasslands and
the elfin forests.
