"The City of Kings" as it was
named by it's founder Francisco Pizarro in 1535, is now
a cosmopolitan city with a history of the Inca, Pre Inca
and Colonial cultures to discover. Our day tours will
introduce you to the marvels this city holds.
Colonial Lima
tour begins with some of Lima's highlights: Museum of
Art, Miguel Grau Monument, Palace of Justice, and Plaza
San Martin. Then visit Lima's colonial churches promenades
and palaces which reflect Peru's Spanish heritage: The
Cathedral, "Plaza Mayor" (main square), Government,
Archbishop, Osambela and Torre Tagle Palaces, Santo Domingo
and St. Peter Churches, and the Monastery of San Francisco.
Modern Lima
and Pedro de Osma Museum tour drives through Lima's modern
residential areas: San Isidro with its olive grove, golf
course and Huaca Huallamarca", and Miraflores with
its central park, "Parque del Amor", and it's
ocean views. This tour also includes highlights of the
bohemian district of Barranco with its "Puente de
los Suspiros", an attractive old bridge, and a visit
to the Pedro de Osma Museum which houses masterpieces
of art from the colonial period.
Archaeological
Lima tour visits the ruins of Pachacamac, (19 miles
south of Lima), the most important per-Inca religious
center on the Peruvian coast. Experience the time of the
Incas at the Temple of the Sun and the Mamacuna"
or House of the Chosen Women. Afterwards, stop at the
renowned National Anthropological and Archaeological Museum
with the most complete collection of pottery, weavings
and monoliths from the pre-Columbian civilizations.
Gold Museum
private collection is so valuable that most of the pieces
are housed in a large vault. It includes a splendid display
of gold objects and ornaments which illustrate the craftsmanship
of the ancient Peruvian cultures of Chavin, Paracas, Nazca,
Lambaeque, Mochica, and Chim. This museum also houses
an eclectic arms collection of old Peruvian weapons and
ancient bizarre firearms.
Many of these tours can be combined or
expanded to include the Rafael Larco Herrera Museum, Poli
Collection, Amano Museum, Huaca Huallamarca or the National
Museum.
