From a hotel in Cuzco
take an early morning transfer to the train station and
set off on a scenic 4-hour train trip through the Urubamba
Valley followed by a 20-minute bus ride up to the breathtaking
Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu.
Upon arrival, set off with a bilingual
guide to explore the walls, stairways, temples and terraces
of Machu Picchu. After lunch served at the hotel, explore
this enchanting place on your own.
For the more energetic, a moderate 2 mile
hike up to the Sun Gate offers fabulous views overlooking
Machu Picchu. Those in great physical shape (and a strong
head for heights) may wish to hike the very steep trail
to the top of Huayna Picchu for outstanding views of the
entire region. In the late afternoon, return to the train
for the trip back to Cuzco where weary travellers are
met at the station and transferred back to their hotel.
$252 per person in 2002 includes transfers,
bus and train transportation, lunch and bilingual tour.
