Jungle Rudy's
Camp Ucaima is the oldest in the area of Canaima.
The well known and legendary Rudolf "Jungle Rudy"
Truffino built his camp in Ucaima ("What attracts"
in the Pemon language), a few minutes by jeep upriver
from the famous Canaima Lagoon on the banks of the Carrao
River in 1956. A natural of the Netherlands, Rudy arrived
here in 1952 and after years of intense work he organized
the first expeditions in what was then a completely unknown
place for the entire world. The camp is now managed by
his three daughters who provide a warm and friendly service
to the guests and are always available for chatting about
the beauty of the Lost
World region.
Clean,
quiet accommodations in one of the 5 comfortable bungalows
provide all the comfort you could wish in this wilderness
with just 14 rooms to ensure a first quality service and
attention to all guests. The installations are beautiful
and the environment offers good taste, privacy and simplicity.
The rooms feature private bathroom and a porch with hammocks.
The
camp has a panoramic dining area that double as a social
area great for talking about the day excursions, a bar
saloon to enjoy your favorite drinks and a lookout saloon
especially designed to enjoy the awe-inspiring landscape
of this tepuy-packed region. Trails around the camp allow
for unguided wandering through the nearby jungle.
Excursions
to the Carrao River and to Angel
Falls, the world's highest, are available as day trips
and overnights (see below), including our flagship Angel
Falls River Venture, which spends one night right
in front of the falls in the only shelter with beds available.
Side excursions to several other nearby waterfalls are
offered, including Sapo and Yuri Falls, as well as Angel
Falls overflights and full day excursions to Kavak.
