Visit
Danto Rapids and the Cuao Hill, both located in ancestral
Piaroa Indians land. Navigate
the Orinoco, Sipapo and Cuao Rivers to enjoy attractive
landscapes and hike and overnight in the Venezuelan Amazon
Jungle.
Day
1 Puerto Ayacucho – Danto Rapids
Morning
overland transfer to Samariapo to board a vessel and start
navigating Venezuela’s largest river, the Orinoco. Enter
the Sipapo River and appreciate the difference in the
colors of the waters. Stop in a scenic spot for a picnic
lunch and a refreshing swim. Continue navigating and enter
the Cuao River to reach Danto Rapids. Visit a Piaroa indigenous
community and learn about their traditions. Walk around
the community and visit a “Conuco”, a native farm system,
navigate by curiara (an indigenous dugout canoe) and swim.
Dinner and overnight in hammocks with mosquito nets in
a camp located in front of the rapids. (L, D)
Day
2 Danto Rapids – Cuao Hill
After
breakfast, walk to the superior part of the rapids and
then continue navigating upriver followed by a hike
through the Amazon jungle escorted by Indian guides who
will give remarkable information about the jungle, the
curative uses of the plants
and the way they chase a tarantula. Reach the shelter
at the feet of the Cuao Hill for a picnic lunch and then
hike to a natural lookout in the hill for a stunning view
of the neighboring landscape. Return to the shelter to
enjoy a refreshing swim in the Caño Paraiso natural toboggan
and its very handsome pools. Dinner and overnight in hammocks
with mosquito nets. (B, L, D)
Day
3 Cuao Hill – Puerto Ayacucho
After
breakfast, walk and navigate back to Danto Rapids to have
lunch. On the way back to Samariapo, visit a Piaroa Indian
community where tour members will learn about the preparation
of the yucca flour. Transfer overland to Puerto Ayacucho.

of the activities can vary according to the time of the
year and the kind of vessel (roofed bongo or boat)
