Andes Adventure

To truly experience a country, one must walk or horseback ride. Our tailor-made hikes to remote and delightful places will show you the magic of the Andes and the charm of its people, As you ride or walk, you will experience the real Venezuela few tourists ever get to see, catching glimpses of authentic traditions and lifestyles of these mountainous people forgotten by the course of time.

Day 1: Arrive early to Merida and then head to the hamlet of San Jose, one of the prettiest in the Venezuelan Andes. Begin to acclimatize with an easy hike near the village and finish your day fishing a trout for your dinner. (L, D)

Day 2: Horseback ride or hike downhill to the beautiful Tos Tos River passing by typical Andean homesteads, then uphill to about 11,000 feet through high tropical mountain plateaus known as "Paramos" to end downhill to the village of Acequias. (B, L, D)

Day 3 : Hike out of Acequias passing by old spanish colonial ruins of a village built in the 1600's, then down to the Nuestra Señora River followed by a jeep transfer to El Morro village. Hike or jeep all the way to the village of Los Nevados (B, L, D)

Day 4 : Horseback ride from Los Nevados over the Alto de La Cruz pass at 13,944 feet, then down to Loma Redonda for a ride on the world's highest and longest cable car system back to Merida (B, L, D)

Day 5 : Spend morning in Merida visiting its museums, historic plazas, the impressive cathedral and the principal market before embarking on your journey elsewhere (B, L)

Closed on certain days, there is usually an option to ride on the world's longest and highest aerial cable car system. From bottom to top, in about one hour, scenery and vegetation remarkably change along the way. From the summit, see a wonderful panorama of snowcapped mountains, as well as glaciers and lakes.
