with a jeep ride to San Rafael, an old colonial village
standing on pre-conquest foundations. Begin to walk, gradually
ascending a picturesque valley to reach "La Ventana"
(The Window) pass at 13,200 feet. In the afternoon we descend
to El Tisure valley, surrounded by glacier lakes, moraines
and unique ecosystems (B, L, D)

to the only high altitude hummingbird, the Bearded Helmetcrest,

mystic/hermit Juan Felix Sanchez. End with a walk to El
Jumo mountain range (B, L, D)

time to explore the surroundings and take refreshing baths
in pools of the Canagua River, before walking to El Jumo
(B, L, D)

by a different route which takes us over the Misteque pass
to Gavidea. On arrival, jeep back to Merida for a well reserved
