Andes Multi-Activity Adventure

The Venezuelan Andes are a real treat for hikers, mountain bikers and whitewater rafting enthusiasts seeking breathtaking scenery, plenty of sunshine, crisp, unpolluted air and unknown, yet prime rivers with rapids ranging from 3 to 5+ grades. This mountainous region is crisscrossed by scenic roads and trails that include tropical cloud forest and spectacular highlands plus snow-capped peaks all at the same time. Our fully customizable Andes Multi-activity Adventure allows to experience the real Venezuela few visitors ever get to see in a very active way.

Day 1: Start from Merida, capital of the venezuelan andes. Hike in the tropical cloud forest of the Sierra Nevada National Park. Overnight at the award-winning Estancia Mucunuy, a restored colonial hacienda (L, D)

Day 2: Bike to Jaji, a reconstructed colonial village. Overnight in Posada Papa Miguel, in La Mesa de los Indios village (B, L, D)

Day 3: Bike to Lagunillas, a xerophitic region, then 4-wheel drive to Tierra Negra for an optional paraglide flight. Finish with a jeep transfer to Acequias, a very remote andean village. Overnight at a lodge in San Jose (B, L, D)

Day 4: Hike from Acequias to San Jose village, passing by beautiful Tos Tos River and andean homesteads. Overnight at a lodge in San Jose (B, L, D)

Day 5: Bike from San Jose to Las Gonzales village, in the Chama River Canyon and have another chance for an optional paraglide flight. Overnight at Estancia Mucunuy (B, L, D)

Day 6: High altitude hike in the andean highlands to introduce you to the diversity and adaptive features of the andean vegetation and the singularities of this tropical high mountain ecology. Overnight at Balcones de La Musui (B, L, D)

Day 7: High altitude biking in La Culata National Park, land of the Andean Condor passing by the impressive San Isidro Tropical Cloud Forest. Overnight at a lodge close to Barinas (B, L, D)

Day 8: Thrilling hike in the Altamira cloud forest crossing rivers and cascades. In the afternoon, drive to the grasslands. Overnight in the Hato Santa Maria (B, L, D)

Day 9: Full day visit to the Llanos, the venezuelan grasslands offering a great opportunity to observe a vast array of neo tropical animals. Also a birdwatching mecca, more than 300 species have been reported. Overnight at Posada Jardin del Eden (B, L, D)

Day 10: Visit the Acequias River for a white water rafting challenge amidst cloud forest. Optional kayaking is also available for the more skilled (B, L, D)

Day 11: Spend the morning swimming and relaxing in the crystalline waters of the Santo Domingo River before embarking on your journey elsewhere (B)

Closed on certain days, there is usually an option to ride on the world's longest and highest aerial cable car system. From bottom to top, in about one hour, scenery and vegetation remarkably change along the way. From the summit, see a wonderful panorama of snowcapped mountains, as well as glaciers and lakes.
