El
Pauji and its surroundings is an area that lies 44 miles
west of Santa Elena de Uairen. It encloses a complete
world of opportunities for the tourist with a genuine
interest in nature, including birdwatching,
photography
and scientific
studies. The area is surrounded by evergreen and
gallery forest, bush and savannah and an endless number
of rivers, ravines and waterfalls that make the area a
very special place. For those who wish a little more of
adventure, it is a beautiful place for mountain biking
and for several days' excursions to the jungle around.
This
trekking adventure is designed for the hardcore adventurer
who wants to experience something that is not commercial,
giving the traveler a chance to overnight in deep forest,
share with Pemon communities, navigate and cross several
rivers and enjoy the views of the tepuys of the area.
Excellent conditions are required for this adventure.

Day
1 Santa Elena de Uairen - El Pauji
Transfer
overland from Santa Elena de Uairen to the young and seldom-visited
village of El Pauji, visiting points of interest on the
way. Visit the artisans and honey producers of the area
in the afternoon. Overnight in Las
Brisas Lodge. (L, D)
Day
2 El Pauji - Rio Verde
Start
the walk early. This day it will be done mainly in deep
forest, crossing several ravines and rivers and passing
through the Pemon Indian communities of Uaiparu and Rio
Verde (Green River). Spend the night and have dinner in
the middle of the forest by a small ravine. Overnight
in tents. (B, L, D)

3 Rio Verde - Aparaman
Continue
hiking on a mixed terrain trail that will take us through
forest and small savannahs to the Kukenan River. A dugout
canoe will take us to the Pemon Indian community of Aparaman.

Day
4 Aparaman - Wonken
Continue
hiking on savannah with outrageous views of the forest,
savannahs and tepuys to the Pemon Indian community of
Pampatameru, where the Kukenan and the Aponwao Rivers
meet to form Pampatameru Falls. Cross both rivers on dugout
canoe. The hike will continue then to Wonken. Overnight
in tents. (B, L, D)

5 Wonken - Santa Elena de Uairen
Transfer
by light plane from Wonken to Santa Elena de Uairen. Overnight
in Yakoo

6 Santa Elena de Uairen
Transfer
to the airport for your flight to your next destination
in Venezuela. (B)
