Gran Sabana Rafting Tour, Lost World

A two nights' rafting experience in Venezuela's Gran Sabana, an UNESCO's World Heritage Site

Starts and finishes in Santa Elena de Uairén

Descend rivers Karaurín and Yuruaní, negotiating several waterfalls, including Yuruaní Falls itself, and numberless rapids, in a paddle-propulsed rubber boat. Following an approximation in 4WD vehicle to this virginal tropical nature, a walk through the savannah and an explanation of the necessary navigation skills, enter the Karaurín River and navigate it down current. The territory lacks any kind of human occupation and only some deserted indian huts, refugees for indigenous hunters of the Pemón tribe, break the total harmony of nature. Savannahs, jungles, and the unique table top mountains or tepuys, will be the outside-boat companions. Closer than ever, the Eastern Chain of Tepuis will open itself to the eyes of travelers, including Tramén, Ilú, Karaurín, Wadaka-Piapó, Yuruaní, Kukenán and Mount Roraima, the highest in Venezuela. And of course, the river. Its clean waters colored with tannins will make the group enjoy a total adventure. The rapids, the common interaction to handle and control the boat, the foam and the emotion will mix to make these days unforgettable. Abandon the Karaurín River when this joins the Yuruaní River. The meeting of both watercourses is an impressive sight. The Jaspe rocks seem to have a desire for taking part in the turbulence of the impetuous waters.

Waterfalls will make inter-cooperation between group members more necessary than ever. The boat and the equipment must be carefully passed through or above rocks or transported to negotiate the drops. The most audacious will be able to get below and inside the water curtain of Yuruaní Falls and wonder at the strength and the noise produced by the liquid element. And, during the night, only the thin fabric of the tent will separate us from the most beautiful firmament we have ever seen. Not few have wanted to see in such a prodigy of beauty a sign or manifestation of cosmic energies.

All equipment including lifesaving devices, helmets, paddles, waterproof bags, tents for two persons and sleeping bags are provided along with all meals, overland transportation and specialized guide. All you need to add is an enthusiasm for paddling and enjoying at the maximum 3 days of total adventure. This is a tour packed with adventure and designed for people with a high sense of group collaboration since three days in places lacking any kind of population or links with the civilization will be spent. The rafting of this journey is not a high level sport type, it is a touch of adventure to an outstanding landscape of tepuys, savannahs and waterfalls which makes it very interesting and particular.
