Excursions Available From Jungle Rudy's Camp Ucaima, Venezuela

Angel Falls

Depart very early by curiara and navigate the tranquil waters of the Carrao River to Mayupa. Walk for half an hour through the tepuy dotted savannah while the curiara negotiate the namesake rapids. Continue navigating the Carrao passing by the Happiness Pit to Orchid Island. Stop for breakfast. Continue upriver through the Aonda Rapids and enter the Churun River, negotiating numberless rapids and always observing the different angles, shapes and colors of the eerie and unique Auyantepuy. Reach Ratoncito Island and walk for about one hour through a natural trail to the Laime Lookout, affording a spectacular panorama of the world's highest waterfall and the mysterious Auyantepuy. Back on the trail we continue to the falls' pool, where yo will have the chance to swim in the cold but pure waters (water level permitting). Following a deserved rest, go back to the river edge. Enjoy an exquisite lunch, rest and prepare for the ride back to the camp.

Angel Falls Overflight

Transfer to the airport in Canaima and depart by light plane to overfly the region, including the Canaima Lagoon and its falls, Sapo Falls and the tepuy peppered savannah before entering the eerie Devil's Canyon to enjoy the spectacular grandeur and beauty of the world's highest waterfall, Angel Falls, and the majestic and ancient mesa of the Auyantepuy. (Subject to weather conditions)

Kavak Gorge and Angel Falls Overflight

Transfer to the airport in Canaima and depart by light plane to the Kamarata Valley, half an hour away in the southeast of the Auyantepuy. Land in Kavak, an indigenous hamlet at Auyantepuy's slopes. Indigenous guides will take us on foot to the deeps of the Gorge to visit an impressive waterfall located inside the cavity created by the river flowing. Swim and relax in the multiple pools. Back in the hamlet, enjoy a typical indian chicken BBQ with time to rest or visit the community and buy handicrafts. Aboard the plane and enter Devil's Canyon inside the Auyantepuy to have a bird

Sapo Falls

Depart with a short curiara (indigenous dugout canoe) ride, then hike through the upper part of the falls to have a first glimpse of the falls themselves and the unique scenery of never-ending savannah and tepuys in the distance. Hike down through a jungle trail to get to the lower part of the falls and prepare to cross through the spectacular water curtain. Once in the other side, we hike up again to enjoy a second perspective of the landscape around and retrace our steps to the lowest part of the falls to visit a river beach. After a nice and refreshing bath in this pink sand shore, hike to the starting point to take the curiara back to the camp.

Yuri Falls

Depart by curiara from the camp to Puerto Ucaima, and then by 4WD vehicle to Canaima, continuing through the savannah and observing the falls in the Canaima Lagoon and the tepuys in the distance. Walk shortly from Puerto Verde to the edge of the Carrao River and jump in a curiara to navigate down river up to the upper part of Yuri Falls. Get inside the jungle and walk to the beautiful Yuri-Lu Falls, enjoy a swim if you like. Back on the trail, walk to the beach in the lower part of Yuri Falls. Enjoy the view and the pink sand beach, swim and relax before returning to the camp.

Moroco Stream

Depart by curiara and navigate the Carrao River for a few minutes before entering the narrow Moroco Stream, where it is possible to observe some fauna and a varied vegetation of savannahs, morichales (groups of Moriche Palms) and forests. There will be opportunities to visit Indigenous hamlets. Moroco is an ideal place for bird lovers, especially in the afternoon.

Mayupa

Depart by curiara and navigate the Carrao River until reaching Mayupa, from where the Auyantepuy can be observed. Stop in a beautiful pink sand river beach and enjoy a relaxing swim in the reddish waters while admiring the imposing landscape. On the way back, we visit an indigenous hamlet where the stories of Canaima's first inhabitants and the adventures of Jimmy Angel are well known by the community elders. Handicrafts are produced and sold as souvenirs.

Happiness Pit

Depart by curiara and navigate the Carrao River until reaching Mayupa. Walk for half an hour through this tepuy-surrounded savannah while the curiara negotiate the namesake rapids. Back in the curiara we pass the Arautaima Rapids before reaching the Pozo de la Felicidad (THe Happiness Pit), a crystal water natural pool with a beautiful, small waterfall by the river edge. Swim and relax with the jungle and the Auyantepuy at sight.

Orchid Island

Depart by curiara and navigate the Carrao River until reaching Mayupa. Walk for half an hour through this tepuy-surrounded savannah while the curiara negotiate the namesake rapids. Back in the curiara we pass the Arautaima Rapids before reaching the Happiness Pit, where we stop for a relaxing swim (see above). With the Auyantepuy at sight, we continue navigating upriver to Orchid Island, in the Aonda area. Walk around to observe the varied nature that this river island has. Swim and rest before enjoying a delicious indian style lunch.
