meals, airport transfer, taxes and service charges, and specified excursions*:
Upon arrival in Belize City your will be met by representatives of Hidden Valley Inn and set off to the interior of Belize.
Hidden Valley Inn consists of twelve spacious cottages with tiled floors, fireplaces, private baths, and comfortable beds, as well as a central lodge where you can relax and read from the library, watch movies, unwind, and enjoy full course meals by candlelight. The surrounding 18,000 acre reserve is a paradise for the nature enthusiast, with many diverse areas accessible by a carefully planned trail system. You may hike amongst Caribbean Pines, moist tropical broadleaf forest, abundant orchid gardens, and over 100 creeks cascading down deep ravines, creating spectacular waterfalls and pools. This vast, isolated property is a protective home to the Jaguar, Ocelot, Tapir, and over 200 species of birds.
*CARACOL
The tour goes directly to Caracol, arriving in time for a two-hour guided tour of the newly excavated ancient metropolis of Caracol. This sight actually conquered Tikal in the 7th century A.D. Surrounded by old growth primary forest deep in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve, it is the largest site in Belize whose ceremonial center spreads five square miles and hosts extensive reservoirs and agricultural terraces as well as glyphs on stone altars and a 136 foot temple.
*RIO FRIO FALLS, RIO-ON POOLS & 1000 FT. FALLS
Your tour begins with the cavernous, open-ended cave; steps cut into the hillside provide easy access. You may have time for a nature hike to the back end of the cave through broadleaf jungle. Then on to the Rio On Pools to view the many cascades and to swim or wander among the rocks and pools. Ideal for a lunch stop. Next stop is the famous Hidden Valley Falls (also called 1000ft. Falls) which is believed to be the tallest waterfall in Central America. This is a 5-6 hour tour depending on length of time at the pools.
The following excursions are available at additional cost:
BARTON CREEK CAVE & BUTTERFLY FARM
The worthwhile cave is accessible only by canoe. Spotlights, necessary because of the dark entrance to the cave, reveal the creek bottom through the crystal clear waters. You will see evidence of Mayan existence and maybe the beautiful blue catfish. Abundant stalagmites and stalactites of all shapes are within reach but please do not touch. You spend approximately 1 1/2 hours inside the cave.
Afterward, you will stop at the Green Hills Butterfly Farm. Here you can observe the life cycle of a butterfly and view close-up the stunning blue-morpho butterfly. This farm exports to all over the world and is one of the most established in Belize.
HORSEBACK RIDING
A different way to experience the countryside and the ruins. Take an equestrian jungle tour today. Your guide will take you along the foothills of the Maya mountains following trails through the jungle and pasture to view remains of the Maya Civilization. Cold, clear waters of mountain brooks combine with life in a semi-tropical rainforest.
TIKAL
Rise and shine early this morning for breakfast and departure overland to Tikal. On this adventure, you will cross the border into Guatemala via the western highway.
Tikal is the grandest of all Mayan Ruins, and the stunning beauty of this tropical paradise will leave you breathless.
Climb to the top of the "Temple of the Jaguar" rising above the jungle to overlook the many temples and main plaza to imagine yourself in the hey-day of this thriving ancient city. Your guide will give you an excellent overview of the discoveries made here, an insight into the Mayan way of life, and the historical significance of the ruin. You will also encounter many species of birds and the rich flora of tropical hardwoods like mahogany and teak, along with countless ornamentals and edibles flourishing here. Return to Hidden Valley at the end of a long but thoroughly fascinating day, 6:30 AM. - 6:30 PM.
