Peru Cloud Forest
The Manu
Cloud Forest Lodge edges on the Amazon and preserves
a unique ecosystem threatened around the world. The largest
concentration of the Cock of the Rock is found here along
with the Golden Headed Quetzal and Mountain Toucan. Of
course many other birds like the Amazonian Umbrella Bird,
tanangers, and hummingbirds are plentiful.
Watch for Brown Capuchin Monkeys overhead
and troops of wooly monkeys descending through the forest.
Only the very lucky will catch a glimpse of South America's
only species of bear, the endangered Spectacled bear.
More likely are views of Vizcacha, a soft rodent likened
to a guinea pig, and Huemal deer.
Two adjacent streams that form the Quosnipata
River and waterfall create the lush environment where lichens,
moss, ferns and orchids thrive.
A downhill mountain
biking trip breezes downhill through a variety of climactic
zones with a chance for close encounters of the bird and
wildlife.
Travel from Cuzco to the Lodge and stay in
basic but comfortable accommodations. You will be guided
by bilingual scientists who work to preserve the biodiversity
of this fragile area. Lost World Adventures suggests a 1
or 2 night stay in conjuction with a stay at the Manu
Rain Forest Lodge or longer stays on it's own.
